Kickstarter Is Coming to New York Comic Con

Crowdfunding has become an important part of how independent creative work gets made. It gives artists, writers, publishers, and other creators a way to bring ambitious ideas directly to the people who want to see them exist—and build a community around the work along the way.

At NYCC, we’re celebrating that spirit with two panels exploring creativity from very different angles: one that puts the artistic process center stage, and another designed to help authors turn an idea into a successful campaign.

What happens when four of comics’ most celebrated artists sit down at the same drawing table?

We’re bringing together Becky Cloonan (Batman, Somna, By Chance or Providence), Tula Lotay (Somna, Barnstormers), Matteo Scalera (The Fourth Father, Black Science), and Peach Momoko (Ultimate X-Men, Star Wars) for a live drawing session and conversation about their creative processes.

You’ll get to watch their work take shape in real time while hearing about the ideas, techniques, and decisions behind it. They’ll also go behind the scenes of their Kickstarter art books and projects, sharing what it takes to bring their work directly to fans.

And yes, there may even be a chance to leave with some original art.

The conversation will be moderated by Kickstarter Director of Comics, Collectibles & Music Sean Edgar.

Oriana will also dig into the publishing landscape on Kickstarter and share lessons from campaigns by authors and publishers across the literary spectrum.
