The new group of creators shaping Kickstarter's future
Introducing Our New Approach To Our Community Advisory Council

Kickstarter is all about bringing people together to make amazing things happen. We've seen how communities of backers help creators realize their ambitious ideas, and three years ago, we decided to assemble a group to help us make Kickstarter the best possible place to launch and discover creative projects.
The result is the Community Advisory Council (CAC), a diverse group of Kickstarter creators who help us keep a steady pulse on creator issues, questions, and opportunities. Creating the Community Advisory Council was our way of making sure creator needs stayed at the core of how we build as a company.
The Community Advisory Council provides insight and expertise to Kickstarter across diverse creative industries by tapping into the knowledge and passion of our community. It provides feedback on solutions to problems to challenges faced by creators and backers, advises on how Kickstarter should engage in public dialogue through communications and policy advocacy, and offers recommendations on our platform, offerings, and mission-related priorities.
Our first two cohorts helped us strengthen our vision for the CAC. Their feedback was that a one-year term wasn’t long enough for the cohort to do the kind of work that truly resonates. We learned there was not only room to expand but also a need to deepen and refine the council’s role. With that in mind, we’re introducing our next round of council members under a renewed vision.
The Community Advisory Council now serves a two-year term in order to deepen collaboration and foster a stronger network of creators who are passionate about bringing improvements to the Kickstarter platform.
Additionally, we will be adding new members on a rolling basis and expanding the council from 12 members to 24. This approach will keep the CAC dynamic and inspired, while strengthening it as a true network, one that is directly connected to Kickstarter teams and other creator advisors. Through this model, members can be tapped as brand ambassadors, beta testers, and trusted voices for insights and feedback that help shape Kickstarter’s future.
This international group of 24 visionaries has worked on more than 380 Kickstarter projects to raise $87.5 million. Those projects represent a wide range of categories including comics, design and technology, fashion, food, games, publishing, film, music, and magic and divination. The Community Advisory Council brings equally diverse professional perspectives, from freelancers, artists, and entrepreneurs to CEOs, developers, cultural strategists, bestselling authors, builders, makers, and multi-hyphenates.
Together, they form a true community of creators, dedicated to helping us imagine and shape the future of Kickstarter’s global creative community. We're excited to collaborate with them and to work to bring their visions to life.
